Rotaract is an organisation for 18-30 year olds with clubs throughout the world. It enables members to meet people, try new activities, and make a difference in their local community.
Rotaract West Berkshire, covering Newbury, Hungerford, Theale & Thatcham, is an ideal opportunity for anyone aged 18-30 living in and around West Berkshire to make new friends, do something different, meet new people and generally have lots of fun!
We regularly meet the first and third Monday of every month. Our current venue for the first Monday of the month is:
The Hogs Head (Function Room),
1-3 Wharf Street, Newbury, RG14 5AN
Time: 8.15pm for 8.30pm
The third Monday is very informal and we try to do a different activity each time - it may be dinner, cinema, bowling, a quiz or drinks, so be sure to contact us in advance to find out where we’ll be!
We are always looking for new members and interested community groups or local charities.

Branch at Risk of Closure

This branch has been sociable with at times allot of students and their friends turning up.
Early last year it became obvious that only a few core committee were showing up for meetings, and so we stopped meeting regularly. Since then we have held the odd social event, unfortunately only a few committee members showed. Since then we have put requests in Newsletters (postal) and electronic communications for social involvement, but these have not generated interest in the Branch.
Therefore it is looking likely the branch will need to close. A branch needs two committee members, and soon one at least will be leaving the branch, combined with a lack of social interest we are thinking of closing the branch.
Should you want to attend social meetings or join the committee so the branch can continue, please contact either myself, or someone in OUSA.

Social Meetings - Important

As a branch we have decided to change the way we manage social meetings, so as of now there will no longer be any monthly meetings.
The new way of organising social meetings from now on is to contact the committee and arrange something specific, as a branch we can then publish the details to offer everyone a chance to join in.
You can contact the committee through this website of the OUSA Newbury first class forums.
The reason for this change is that most monthly meetings have had such a low turnout that at best, there were only the committe, and at worst one of the committee was on their own. So im sure you can understand why we have chosen to take the decision we have.

Walk (27th October)

We will be going for a short walk on 27th October.
The plan is to meet at the Crown pub in Kingsclere at 11am for a short 5 mile walk. We will be guided by Rachel and for those interested a pub meal afterwards.

AGM followed by Pizza

The next meeting is our AGM which means the 7th of November AGM/Social/Pizza evening will look something like the following.
- 19:30 Social meeting starts
- 20:00 AGM starts
- 20:30 We go for a Pizza
We need a Secretary (our current one is moving on…)
Our secretary is leaving so we need a volunteer to become our new Secretary, or I need to stand down as Chair and become Secretary so that some one can be the new Chair.
Chair and Secretary positions require very little effort.
Why do we need a Secretary (and a Chair)?
The OUSA constitution requires both officers, please see below.
“The Branch will be deemed to have closed if it does not have at least two Officers in post. All funds held by the Branch will be recalled and held centrally pending the Branch being reactivated. ” (Point xi of “d. committee” under section “5. Branches”)
